Meet the key members of the HeartShare Wellness team!

Joyce Levin, MS, Executive Director

Joyce Levin is the Executive Director of HeartShare Wellness, a role she fulfills on a part-time basis for the clinic. As Executive Director of HeartShare Wellness, she has overall operational responsibility for the both the Article 28 and Article 16 Clinics. Ms. Levin has a Master's degree in Education with a concentration in rehabilitation counseling and over 30 years of experience in developing and operating services for individuals with developmental disabilities in New York City.

Jon Michnovicz, MD, PhD, Medical Director

Dr. Michnovicz has been the Medical Director of HeartShare Wellness since its founding in June 2000. He began his work in the medical care of the disabled in 1990 and currently serves as either medical director or staff physician for five other agencies in New York City serving the disabled. His principal strength lies in a deep understanding and experience with all aspects of the disability world, including day programs, residential settings, Article 28 outpatient clinics, Article 16 specialty clinics and research.

Since 1989, Dr. Michnovicz has been the founder and president of the Foundation for Preventive Oncology, Inc., a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the prevention of cancer. He has performed medical research in nutrition and breast cancer prevention, publishing over 45 peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters. His writing has appeared in such prestigious venues as the New England Journal of Medicine and the Journal of the National Cancer Institute. Dr. Michnovicz's first book, "How to Reduce Your Risk of Breast Cancer" (Warner Books 1997), was also translated in Russian and Czech.

A native of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Dr. Michnovicz received his medical training in New York City at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, completing a dual MD-PhD degree in 1983. Following residency training in Internal Medicine at SUNY Stony Brook, he served as a professor at The Rockefeller University and New York University School of Medicine. His current research interests include preventive medicine in the disability community.

Looking toward the future, Dr. Michnovicz is primarily concerned with developing new models of primary medical care among disabled children and adults. Tremendous change is on the healthcare horizon for all Americans, and these changes will have a major impact on the lives of people with developmental disabilities. Dr. Michnovicz provides an important leadership role in helping to ensure the best healthcare outcomes for his patients.

Jude Alexandre, MSW, Clinic Director

Hired in 2006 after working for eight years at an Article 16 Clinic, Mr. Alexandre monitors services provided to all the patients at HeartShare Wellness, establishes clinic policies, supervises all clinicians, oversees HIPAA compliance, and develops, implements and monitors the clinic's budget. He is also responsible for fundraising and assists in development of the Board of Directors. Mr. Alexandre has a Master's degree in Social Work.

David Biozes, Operations Manager

Mr. Biozes has been with HeartShare Wellness since it opened in May 2000. As the Operations Manager, Mr. Biozes is responsible for directing the daily operations of HeartShare Wellness, ensuring compliance with all State and Federal regulations, managing clinic staffing matters, and directing and overseeing patient flow activities. He is in constant contact with family members, nursing and management staff from agencies, and other caregivers. He has Master's degrees in Public Administration and Developmental Psychology.

Luisa Vasquez, Office Manager

Ms. Vasquez has been a vital member of the HeartShare Wellness team since the clinic's inception. As Office Manager, a role she has held for many years, she is responsible for ensuring that medical records are up-to-date, for supervising administrative assistants, for coordinating physicians' and clinicians' schedules, and many other important duties.

Angela Thomas, Article 16 Treatment Coordinator

Ms. Thomas began working at HeartShare Wellness in 2002 as a Medical Secretary. She was promoted to Treatment Coordinator of the Article 16 Clinic in 2010. In this position, Ms. Thomas coordinates the work provided by the Article 16 clinicians, including the psychologists, social workers, occupational therapists, physical therapists, and speech therapists. She ensures that all treatment plans and needed evaluations, as well as other services documentation, are both comprehensive and timely.
